Lauri Lynnxe Murphy is both a working artist and small business owner, splitting her time between her studio and her business. In the studio, she creates mixed media segmented paintings that erupt out of the wall in odd shapes and sometimes sprout hair or eyes. She also works with textiles, sometimes re-working stuffed animals or molding felt into armies of microorganisms. She strongly believes that anything is an art material, and has used things ranging from tar to powder puffs, and her work has been shown at galleries and museums nationwide. She also runs Capsule Gallery, which focuses on working with students and emerging artists. Capsule also features art studios, a community screen-printing shop, and presents classes and art festivals. She has been a teaching artist for over ten years, working with Young Audiences, ArtReach, the Denver Art Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver.
