From versatile solo shows to large multi-media productions such as “microcosm/MACROCOSM”, Betsy Tobin presents unique and innovative programs for all ages integrating acting, shadow theatre, masks, puppets, and video sequences. Her shows have received critical acclaim across Europe as well as in the United States. She has won awards at European festivals for her performances and scripts of “The Night of Sisyphus” and “King of Straw” (published in Paris by GES Editions) and numerous grant sand fellowships in the United States.
Betsy’s residencies can focus on traditional theatre and puppetry techniques or the innovative work she is currently doing with shadow theatre and video. Her workshops can be custom-designed to focus on the essence of acting, to integrate tips on story structure and playwriting, or to teach specific techniques such as hand puppetry, shadow puppetry on the overhead projector, mask-making or masked acting. Her extensive knowledge of the history of puppet theatre and the origins and uses of masks around the world add depth to her presentations. Betsy intuitively adapts her workshops to the age level, interests, and abilities of the students she is working with
