Single Performance: $270 A Visit with Madame Curie This one-woman drama exposes the struggles and triumphs of Madame Marie Curie- world-famous scientist, mother, and teacher. The program starts with childhood memories that include Maria’s dawning interest in science and her determination to conquer obstacles to obtaining and education in politically oppressed Poland- where women were not allowed to obtain schooling after high school. It then traces her migration to France, her romance with Pierre Curie, the birth of their first daughter, and the basis of her scientific investigations that led to the discovery of radium and an understanding of radioactivity. This 50-minute program includes a 10-minute Q&A with the author/presenter. Single Performance: $405 Bullies Beware! Through a set of folktales and personal experiences, Susan Marie guides students to recognize bully behavior, whether physical or verbal, and learn strategies for dealing with it constructively. She also addresses group behavior that ostracizes a child. The program ends with a fable that promotes cooperation. Single Performances: $270 Engineering and Math Through Stories Engineering means applying science to helping people. Each story conveys one or more engineering principles that illustrate concepts such as experimentation, infinity, mechanical pulleys, and air pressure. We will also touch on the meaning of time management and technical communication skills. Susan worked 14 years as an engineer prior to embarking on full time storytelling. This 60-minute workshop, which accommodates up to 30 students, provides a nurturing setting to explore the spoken word and all it can convey. Learn five principles that you can apply to any story or theater presentation. Practice imagining with all your senses: sight, sound, smell, touch and taste; physical movement and pantomime; drawing on genuine emotions and using all the tools in your vocal toolkit. Fee: $235 Workshop! Students will learn easy techniques to add rich sensory descriptions to their writing and reveal the emotional inner state of their characters. With exercises in this 60-minute workshop, each student will create a unique piece of writing. Handouts are also available for follow up work. This workshop can accommodate up to 30 students. Fee: $235 Mary Shelley Speaks English writer Mary Shelley explains, “How I, then a young girl of eighteen, came to think of so hideous a tale as Frankenstein.” Teen-aged mother, behind-the-scenes supporter of social reform, romantic and scholar, Mary describes the writer’s process, assembling a fantasy from real life experiences. This one-hour program included Q&A with “Mary Shelley” and with author/presenter. Single Performance: $405 Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady, 1937 Meet Eleanor Roosevelt during her husband’s second presidential term. Eleanor worked to advance minimum wage, laws against child labor, women’s rights and civil rights. Behind this public life is the story of a little girl who lost both parents before the age of ten and a debutante who felt trapped by society’s expectations.
