This program consists of koto and shamisen music and dance on stage.  Koto is an instrument that has been played in Japan since the 7th Century.  It's rich tonal qualities are both healing and relaxing.  The dance has been performed in Japan since the 16th Century.  A kimono demonstration is available if requested.

Workshop:  Let's Play Koto

In this workshop, musician, Junko Shigeta will bring four kotos, a keyboard, rainsticks, drums and other instruments for the students to play. They will learn how to read koto music, sing in Japanese, and play the koto. Students will also have the opportunity to compose original music. This workshop is 60-minutes in length and is available for up to 40 students. Upon the schools request, the traditional Japanese kimono can also be shown.

Workshop:  Let's Make Dance with Koto Music

This 45 minute workshop teaches students Japanese choreography and use Kotos and Shamizen music.  Origami can be done on request.
