Colorado Art Education Association Announces 2009 Art Education Awards

The Colorado Art Education Association has named the winners of its 2009 Art Education Awards during its annual fall conference in Breckenridge.

The CAEA gave 14 nods for outstanding achievements in Art Education this year, including naming Joe Holliman, an art teacher at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, as Colorado Art Educator of the Year. Holliman has also served as CAEA treasurer and on the Littleton Schools Art Council since 1993, as well as serving as chair of the district’s curriculum writing committee.

Other winners include the following:

• Deborah Snyder, Higher Education Art Educator of the Year
• Angie Willsea, High School Art Educator of the Year
• Deborah Frain, Middle School Art Educator of the Year
• Sue Patterson, Elementary Art Educator of the Year
• Janelle Maria Sowers, Private/Independent/Charter School Art Educator of the Year
• Kyle Wimmer, Rookie Art Educator of the Year
• Jeanne Shoaff, Museum Art Educator of the Year
• Dr. Diana Howard, Distinguished Leadership Award
• Kimberly Sheek, Marion Quin Dix Leadership Award
• Deborah Frain & Vickie Graber, Service Within the Profession
• Steve Wood & Patti Smithsonian, Service Outside the Profession
• Loveland Sculpture Group, Service Outside the Profession
• State Representative Nancy Todd, Service Outside the Profession

CAEA Art Education Awards are given annually to professionals who show distinguished leadership and service in their fields. Art educators may be nominated by any CAEA member. For more information, visit http://www.caea-colorado.org/2009
