Let’s Build a Story
Using improvisational techniques, Susan Marie guides the audience to create and develop characters, settings, conflict, and plot right before their eyes. We all become authors on the spot and learn the process of how to create a complete story from our own imaginations. (This performance is greatly enriched when combined with Susan Marie’s classroom workshops in Creative Writing).

Bullies, Beware!
Through a set of folktales and personal experiences, Susan Marie guides students to recognize bully behavior, whether physical or verbal, and learn strategies for dealing with it constructively. She also addresses group behavior that ostracizes a child. The program ends with a fable that promotes cooperation.

Living History Program- A Visit with Madame Curie
Meet Madame Marie Curie, world-famous scientist best known for the discovery of radium and radioactivity. Children will follow Marie’s scientific method through easily understood analogies, and explore some of the economic, political, and gender-based obstacles she faced along the way. This 60-minute program includes Q&A with “Marie Curie” and then with the author/presenter.

Living History Program- Mary Shelley Speak
English writer Mary Shelley explains, “How I, then a young girl of eighteen, came to think of so hideous a tale as Frankenstein.” Teen-aged mother, behind-the-scenes supporter of social reform, romantic and scholar, Mary describes the writer’s process, assembling a fantasy from real life experiences. This one-hour program included Q&A with “Mary Shelley” and with author/presenter.

Living History Program- Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady, 1937
Meet Eleanor Roosevelt during her husband’s second presidential term. Eleanor worked to advance minimum wage, laws against child labor, women’s rights and civil rights. Behind this public life is the story of a little girl who lost both parents before the age of ten and a debutante who felt trapped by society’s expectations. This educational program includes Q&A with “Mrs. Roosevelt” and with the author/presenter.

Single Workshop Experience
Storytelling
This workshop provides a nurturing setting to explore the spoken word and all it can convey. Learn five principles that you can apply to any story or theatre presentation. Practice imagining with all your senses: sight, sound, smell, touch and taste; physical movement and pantomime; drawing on genuine emotions and using all the tools in your vocal toolkit. This 60-minute workshop is available for up to 30 students.

Story Writing
Students will learn easy techniques to add rich sensory descriptions to their writing and reveal the emotional inner state of their characters. Through exercises, each student will create a unique piece of writing. Handouts are also available for follow up work. This 60-minute workshop is available for up to 30 students.
