Lights, Camera, Curriculum!
The National Young Audiences Artist of the Year, acclaimed Chicago animator and winner of 40 film festival awards, JP Somersaulter uses flipbooks, storyboards, artwork, "cell characters", models of films, sound effects instruments, and live demonstrations of his cartoon characters' voices to unlock the secrets of filmmaking. Combining his talents as cartoon artist, actor, writer, musician, and former classroom teacher, Mr. Somersaulter reveals how stories are brought to life on film. Programs (including vocabulary, technical content, and films) are geared to appeal to particular ages: primary, intermediate, middle, and high school. Each show includes short films plus humorous explanations, student interaction, and student volunteers. One of JP's major aims is to inspire a creative interest in the various media involved in his art form, and in the filmmaking process itself. But, JP also helps students understand that, to succeed in film, they have to master language arts, math and science. JP will be visiting Colorado schools for a limited time only!
