Catch the Rhythm/ Viva el Ritmo!
Storyteller/flamenco dancer Christopher Maier offers a hilarious collection of anecdotes, folktales, songs, raps, and rhymes about rhythm in language and everyday life. A Mexican folktale about a snowstorm out of season, Abiyoyo, Frog and Toad and other stories are told with rhythm as their theme, and rhythm in the language of the telling.

Original Folktales
Creative writing is celebrated in the telling of original stories based on world folk tales. Stories may include an Ethiopian folk tale transplanted to the San Luis Valley, La Chica (Cinderella) living in Dallas, Texas, and a Japanese tale that now includes the first brain-to-brain home shopping network! The folk tales that inspired these contemporary stories are available prior to performance dates.

Words at Play!
Celebrate the many ways of playing with language, with stories, poems, songs, limericks and tongue twisters. This program draws inspiration from the likes of Dr. Seuss and riddles and Lewis Carroll and folk humor.

Single Workshop Experience

Creating Original Folk Tales
This 60-minute workshop motivates students to take on the work of writing by using the power of verbal imagery and borrowing plots and characters from existing folk tales. Stories are created orally first, then turned into writing.
